Paula Badosa of Spain is through to the quarterfinals in Båstad after defeating sixth-seeded Emiliana Arango of Colombia in straight sets, 6–3, 6–2.
Badosa made a strong start in today’s second match on Centre Court. With heavy groundstrokes and excellent depth, she dictated much of the play and put Arango under pressure early. The Spaniard secured the opening set 6–3 after taking control from the baseline.
Although her serve was not entirely trouble-free, with eight double faults in total, Badosa showed strength in the key moments. She saved 9 of 10 break points on her own serve and was also highly efficient when opportunities came in return games, converting 4 of 5 break chances.
Badosa also held the edge behind her serve. She won 70 percent of the points behind her first serve and 50 percent behind her second, which proved an important key to the match.
In the quarterfinals, Badosa will face American Varvara Lepchenko, who earlier in the day produced a strong performance to defeat second-seeded German Tamara Korpatsch 6–1, 6–2.
